Product description

Active substance: trometamol salt of thioctic acid1 - 39,7 мг expressed as thioctic acid (α-lipoic acid) - 25 мг.

Indications

  • Diabetic polyneuropathy.
  • Alcoholic polyneuropathy.

Thioctic acid (alpha-lipoic acid) is an endogenous antioxidant of direct- (binds free radicals) and non-direct-action. It takes part in the oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvic acid and alpha-ketoacids as a coenzyme of mitochondrial multienzyme complexes. The acid helps reduce the blood glucose and increase liver glycogen concentration and contributes to overcoming insulin resistance. By its biochemical action it is close to vitamin B complex. It takes part in the regulation of lipid and carbohydrate metabolism and stimulates cholesterol metabolism. Thioctic acid has a hepatoprotective, hypolipidemic, hypocholesterolemic and hypoglycemic effect. It improves the neuron trophicity.

In case of diabetes mellitus, thioctic acid suppresses the production of advanced glycation end products, improves endoneural blood flow, increases the glutathione content up to physiological level, which results in the improved functional state of peripheral nerve fibers in case of diabetic polyneuropathy.

Owing to its participation in lipid metabolism, thioctic acid increases biosynthesis of phospholipids and restores damaged cellular membranes; it normalizes energy metabolism and nerve impulse conduction. Thioctic acid neutralizes the toxic impact of alcohol metabolites (acetaldehyde, pyruvic acid), suppresses the excess production of free oxygen radicals and relieves endoneural hypoxia and ischemia weakening the manifestation of polyneuropathy in the form of paresthesia, burning sensations, pain and numbness in the extremities. Therefore, thioctic acid has antioxidant and neurotrophic effects and improves lipid metabolism.

Dosage form: infusion solution concentrate 25 mg/ml.

1Generated as a result of interaction between thioctic acid (25 mg) and trometamol (trometamin), (28.5 mg).
